Sprain And Strain: What’s The Difference?
It is a common misconception that “sprain” and “strain” are interchangeable terms. In reality, there are some key differences between the two. In order to understand how they differ, it is important to first understand what ligaments and tendons are.
Ligaments connect bones to bones within a joint, while tendons connect bones to muscles. When you experience a sprain, you are tearing or overstretching a ligament. Conversely, when you experience a strain, you are tearing or overstretching a tendon.

In my last post, I talked about the #1 Way to Improve Your Balance, with a simple, easy solution to improving your everyday quality of life. But even with this easy fix, sometimes a more specialized solution is needed. That’s where physical therapy comes in to fix balance problems for good!
When it comes to finding a way to fix balance problems, physical therapy is ALWAYS the best option. Besides being totally holistic and drug free, physical therapy with the right physical therapist gets to the root of the problem. Once the root is found, the problem can then be solved through an individual physical therapy program, so that patients can go back to a normal, daily life. Everyone desires to be healthier, stronger, and more active. This may sometimes feel difficult to accomplish, due to pain, injuries, or poor diets.
Pain increases undesirable chemicals in your body that cause stress, creating a challenge when it comes to exercise. All of this also affects your endocrine system, which regulates your hormones and controls almost everything happening in your body!
Thankfully, there are many exercises that can effectively ease your pain while simultaneously strengthening the affected part(s) of your body.

Are you done with physical therapy but still feel a little off?
Do you still feel like something is missing?
Are you still feeling a bit unsure about your body?
Don’t worry, this is all a very natural feeling. In fact, it’s something that we hear quite often from our patients that are nearing the end of their time in physical therapy. For many patients, there is still a lingering feeling of unsteadiness that remains, with a bit of fear about how their body will hold up after they are done with their PT program. “But my physical therapist says my physical therapy is done, so what gives?”
Physical Therapy Gets You Back To Function
What many must remember is that physical therapy is the pathway to getting back to being functional again. For example, if a person is unable to walk, for whatever reason, physical therapy helps that patient get back to the point where they are able to walk again. Physical therapy; however, is not meant to help that patient take that next step, such as if a patient now wants to a couple of miles each day, or, better yet, get to jogging as a part of a good daily health plan. That next step, where a person has daily confidence in their body and is also looking to get even better, is up to the patient to find on their own.

How Physical Therapy Can Help
Did you know that strengthening your core muscles is linked to developing better balance? It’s true! When your core muscles are strong, they have a better chance of preventing you from experiencing chronic lower back pain and developing other injuries. A strong core helps to keep you in an upright position, especially as you get older and develop more of a risk of falling and hurting yourself.
