Back To Sports With Physical Therapy

by: Dr. James Pumarada

I always love working with athletes in the clinic.  Being a person that was raised around & participated in competitive sports from a very young age, I love helping athletes get back to the sports they love.

Working with Van over the last few months in Physical Therapy in our Jersey City clinic has been nothing short of amazing.  An avid cyclist and Black Belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Van came to us for Physical Therapy after an ACL injury that required reconstruction surgery.  Van was confident in my ability to help him recover both safely and quickly so that he could return to the BJJ competition mats, where he has distinguished himself in national tournaments on a number of occasions.

Getting back to form with Physical Therapy

Normally, post-op ACL reconstruction Physical Therapy programs can take anywhere between 6 months to up to 1 year to get back functionally.  With a highly motivated and dedicated patient in peak physical condition like Van, I was able to get him back with Physical Therapy, functionally, in significantly less time.  Using the AlterG Anti Gravity Treadmill in conjunction with a safe yet intense rehabilitation regimen for his Physical Therapy visits in Jersey City, I can proudly say that he is now functionally ready to make the transition to working towards competitive BJJ again after only 4 months!  He has truly been the model of hard work & perseverance with Physical Therapy in our clinic, and his recovery has been nothing short of amazing.

We can't wait to see what happens when he gets back to competing!
